Lucy on the Loose

Over the river and through the glen, and you come to one of the leash-free areas in Balboa Park. This one is a bit different, as there is no fence. This is good for the scenery (who needs another fence?), but creates a problem for a dog like Lucy, who is not at all sure why she should come to us when we call. There's also the fact that she is smart enough to say to herself, hey! this is fun! why should I cut my play time short just because some human asks me to?

There's lots of area to roam, brush, trails, etc. around this particular dog park, and we stuck pretty close to her to make sure she didn't go for a ramble. Fortunately, at this stage of the game, Jeff can catch her if he needs to. In this photo, Sara makes yet another vain attempt to teach the pup to heel.

Being a bit of a homebody, Lucy does not pay a whole lot of attention to other dogs. Even when we walk past the two Akitas down the block, and they go wiggie, she just blithely moseys on.
At the dog park, she did take an occasional flyer with one of the other pups, and seemed to have a grand time. In this photo, she is impressed by this dog's amazing tail. We try to take here to the dog park every few days. It's a nice walk for all concerned.
