Holiday Festivities
We've had the privilege of being invited to a bunch of fun-filled holiday fiestas, including the Christmas Eve-Eve banquet at Barbara's place. The religious balance was pretty even (5-4 for the celebrants) and the menu was equally ecumenical - pork roast and tsimmes, followed by a huge pile of Laurel's cookies.
We went for a post-meal mosey to see some of the local lights. The photos do not in any way do them justice. This setup overlooking the park covers two houses, and they worked for about a week with a scaffolding to put it all up.
The technology in these lights gets better every year, and on this train, the LEDs in the wheels go round and round...
On the way there, we let Lucy commune with the plaque celebrating her favorite bird, along the perimeter of Bird Park. She was pleased, and christened the area appropriately.
Next day we hit the Mission to make sure their lunch fare was equal to the breakfast offerings. It was.
To work off some of the cookies and other goodies, I decided to take a ride through the Eastlake/Chula Vista area near the Olympic Training Center. As long as I'm down here, it makes sense to explore some of the south county routes. Rolling out from Pepper Park and down the bikeway, I was sporting my brand new Team THAAD jersey, a gift from big brother Mikie. Nice colors, weird design, great fit.
On the road, I ran into (not literally) Bill Riggs from the Recyclers. He is everywhere, and these are some of his favorite stomping grounds. On the way back, I met some chaps from the Cyclo-Vets who told me how to get out to Jamul. Maybe next week...
