Knitting in North Park

So, I thought I'd share all the knitting I've done (and meant to do) while on our adventure:

Oliver's Scarf: This was a project that had been brewing in the back of my mind, waiting for the right person and occasion. It seemed a good choice for Oliver's birthday / Christmas present since he is certainly a color loving guy!

It was a really fun knit, and kept me going to see what the colors would stripe like as they changed.

Here's the artistic shot...

When Oliver's scarf was done, I realized that the only remaining projects I brought were to mend (sorry, Naomi - your sweater elbows have not been repaired yet as promised) and some items to do the finishing on (see below). So, on a rare trip back to Solana Beach, I ran into Knitting by the Beach and grabbed some yarn for a scarf to make from the new wonderful scarf pattern book that I brought to North Park to peruse. And the result was this squiggly, wormy, soft and fuzzy (and not too warm) scarf for Naomi! It's made of wool, alpaca and camel!! She liked it! Will try to get a modelled shot of her and Oliver wearing their scarfs soon.

Naomi's scarf: the artistic shot was draped on Barbara's wonderful chair that she let us have for this month's stay...
Down in the dregs of my knitting basket, I desperately scrambled for something to keep my fingers busy and the result was this cheery dishcloth/washcloth (as the spirit moves you) for Naomi's good friend in Amherst, Emily. These make good sense for people who particularly care about saving the environment by not using paper products and it makes a great substitute for paper towel! It is surprising to say that this cloth was more of a pain in the butt to knit than Oliver's scarf with it's wonderful color flow or Naomi's scarf with it's interesting shaping to knit. I do like the final result, though and if it helps the world, that's even better. I hope it is a cheerful note for Emily in the midst of a very cold and snowy winter when it arrives with a few others for a late New Year's and early birthday gift.

And last but not least, a shot of the Modular vest, alas, not finished but only contemplated about this month. I really thought I would get around to piecing this together and sewing the edging and buttons on, but it was not to be. I suffer from the classic syndrome of many craftspeople - the finishing is the hardest part to motivate yourself to do.

Although we will miss NP, one of the things I'll look forward when we return to Solana Beach in a few days is all my stash of yarn and patterns to choose from for the NEXT project to keep my fingers busy! Meanwhile, I'll take out one of the books I brought down to read. (So far, I've finished "Blindness" by Jose Saramago for our book club and have started "Talk Talk" by T.C. Boyle just for fun, both good reads, so far anyway...

I meant to tell you during our phone conversation that we still have that wonderful baby's blanket you made for Matt when he was born. We took it out for Anna, Mike and Cindy's 2 1/2 year old daughter for her visit here. It's in great shape. We found the sewn-in inscription "Matthew Robert Glenn from Aunt Sara" too.
